The two best teams in the world (FC Barcelona & Real Madrid CF) have led the Club World Ranking for some months. But during August there were considerable changes in the group behind these super clubs. The principal reason was the the many unexpected results in the two UEFA club competitions and in the Copa Sudamericana. Worldwide the highest number of points in the month of August was achieved by SK Viktoria Plzeň (48), Stade Rennais FC (46), FC Bayern München (40), Botafogo FR Rio de Janeiro (40), FC BATE Barysau (39), FC Vorskla Poltava (39) and CR Flamengo Rio de Janeiro (38 points). But all these clubs lost a competitive match during the month of August and with it dropped out of the reckoning for the World's Club Team of the Month. Globally, only Stoke City FC (44 points) and Club Atlético de Madrid (38) among the ten teams with the highest number of points were without defeat. The team from Madrid won against the internationally higher rated opponents in the Europa League and without conceding a goal - and are consequently the World's Club Team of the Month.
In terms of the strongest national league in the world, the English Premier League has - in comparision with the trend information – reduced the deficit from 143 to 84 points and is currently in 2nd place for the year 2011. And the Brazilian Série A has surpassed the Argentinian Primera División in the meantime. While the French League has markedly improved its position (now 6th place), the Italian Serie A has dropped back and currently 9th place with the German Bundesliga. The last two months has also seen a notable improvement by the MLS (USA).
